Some men wake up after a relationship crisis and claim to be working on emotional growth. If someone is working on a growth mission, some new behaviors should be clearly visible.
Remember: We take the step, but the Holy Spirit is the helper, teacher, and counselor.
Here is a list of possible activities:
- Reads his Bible and talks to God
- Specifically, prays for wisdom
- Listens to Podcasts
- Journal his thoughts and feelings
- Seeks wise counsel and consults with older men
- Uses an accountability partner
- Confesses to several close men so they are aware of his challenges and are ready to offer support
- Reads on the topic or listens to audio books
- Asks for help when he needs it
- Identifies and follows several different mentors to include watching their programs
- Participates in a weekly men’s group
- Increasingly talks about emotions and uses emotional language
- Keeps growing in self awareness
- Uses language that sounds like, “I had this new insight or saw something I’ve not seen before.”
- Learns more about his moods and triggers
- Works towards peace, rest, and joy
- Introduces the concept of emotional growth to other men
- Quotes verses and shares new concepts with others

If someone close to you is working on emotional growth, you will be able to see some of these behaviors.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you made me a spiritual and emotional being. Help me grow into your likeness. May my spirit know and honor you. And may my emotional system work in harmony with your spiritual system. Thank you for community and fellowship. I cannot do this work alone. Amen.
