Allison Cook, author, speaker, and therapist shared her three-point outline. She said, when you have a problem, you must do three things.
- Name it
- Frame it
- Brave it
At first, I struggled with the concept. Then, it grew on me. Now, I like it. Here is my understanding.
1. NAME IT (The problem)
- Emotions are scary.
- Growing up emotions meant pain.
- Emotional people look and sound out of control.
- Emotions mess you up.
Name it: I avoid emotions.
2. FRAME IT (Put it in a bigger context.)
- Emotionally connecting is a skill.
- Emotions help two different individuals connect.
- Lots of individuals enjoy emotional talking.
- I am a spiritual, emotional, and physical being.
Frame it: It’s time for me to go on an emotional growth mission.
3. BRAVE IT (Make small steps of change.)
- I will stop running away.
- It’s okay to press into a little discomfort.
- Growth is hard but good.
- I will take one, small, emotional step today.
Brave it: When I fail, I will rise and continue forward.
