I have a friend. He’s a Christian, medical professional, and a senior adult. Recently, he shared a long-time inner-conflict. It goes like this.
“There can’t be a God! And, there must be a God!”
(Here are my two sides of that debate.)
THERE CAN’T BE A GOD!
God makes no sense.
You can’t see or prove that a God exists.
A real God would be more reliable.
How could there be a God if so many good people experience terrible things? And, so many bad people get rewarded.
If God is so good why does so much bad happen? There can’t be a God.
THERE MUST BE A GOD!
I am a spiritual being living in a physical body. And, I need a big spiritual mentor to explain this life.
(Science can explain how something works. It can never explain meaning, purpose, or man’s mission.)
Then, there are those times when I have an unexplainable encounter. It’s that moment when my spirit has an encounter with a bigger spirit. The only word to describe it is, a sacred moment .
And what about those miraculous events, that are totally unexpected, unpredictable, and unexplainable. They are breathtaking and full of awe.
God, being a Holy Spirit, makes sense if we are spiritual beings.
“There can’t be a God! And, there must be a God!”
And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
Matthew 28:17-19 (NASB)
Jesus said, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Prayer
Father, help my spirit lead me even when my soul has doubts. Amen
