How do you have a peaceful and joyful adult life?
How do you run an adult emotional system that is full of ease, calm, and rest?
The Answer
Don’t experience any trauma in your childhood. Nope. Trauma twists you into an emotionally unhealthy adult. So, here is the plan.
Avoid these issues:
- Never attend a school with bullies.
- Don’t be born to young immature parents.
- Inherit a high functioning, good-processing brain.
- Pick parents who are successful and with good communication skills.
- Make sure neither parent had trauma that turned into addictions.
- Never move to a new school in childhood.
- Don’t be the slow kid who gets picked on.
- Never have a teacher or coach that makes you feel stupid.
- Never experience any difficult sexual encounters.
This is a list of things to do in childhood so your adulthood is much easier.
- In your youth, find emotionally healthy friends. The kind that love and support you for a lifetime.
- Live a sheltered life.
- Grow up on a desert island where you don’t discover your sexuality until age 16.
- Be a standout in school and only earn exceptional grades.
- Be physical and athletic so every team captain picks you.
- Find self-esteem in grade school and never doubt yourself.
- Inherit good looks. (But without being extremely handsome or extremely the opposite…it’s too stressful. I should know.)
The Solution
I know this is a long list, but do not fear, there is another way to arrive at a joyful and peaceful adult life. That is to follow Abba, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They are in the restoration and transformation business.
This is meant to be thought provoking and humorous. But if you find it overly upsetting, please seek out a mental health professional. The point is, we are all imperfect and none of us can escape the things we cannot change. But our heavenly Father knows this and has sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to save, transform, and restore us.
Prayer
Father, when I go through problems, I want to go through holding your hand. I’m tired of walking alone. I need your presence and a few supportive friends, and I’ll be just fine. Thank you for Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Help me seek and find you in every life challenge. And help me love my wife like crazy! Amen.
