In my youth, vacation offered three choices: Go to the river, go to the coast, or go to the mountains. Back then, the goal was adventure. The senior years are mostly about maintenance—and the list of choices keeps getting longer.
- I can go to the chiropractor.
- Get my hearing aids cleaned.
- Schedule dental maintenance.
- Add more fish to my diet.
- Get my A1C number checked.
- Try to find a functional medicine doctor.
- Read my Senior Citizen’s monthly magazine.
- Check my blood pressure again.
- Refill my prescriptions.
- Do some yoga poses.
- Wonder about the new clicking sound coming from my knee.
- Research magnesium supplements.
- Decide if today is a walking day.
- Drink more water.
- Cut back on sugar… again.
- Try to remember where I put my reading glasses.
- Look up a new sleep supplement.
- Read another article about inflammation.
- And take a nap.
I guess caring for the temple of the Holy Spirit now includes vitamins, stretching, and afternoon naps.
Closing:
So many choices…
But perhaps the best choices today are guarding my heart, practicing gratitude, and spending the day with Abba, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Prayer:
Father, help me make wise choices today. May this day—and every day—honor You. Amen.
Scripture:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” 1 Cor. 6:19 NIV
