Here are some thoughts that come from the book titled, WholeHeartedness by Chuck Degroat. What follows is a combination of Chuck’s thoughts with a few of mine mixed in.
We are all searching for how to be whole again. On the growing up journey we got divided. And by living divided we live with confusion, loneliness, and exhaustion.
We are told by life coaches that we need to work on having better self-esteem. But it’s really hard to esteem yourself. Especially when you know all the mistakes you’ve made. So, Chuck suggests we move away from self-esteem work and instead pursue more self compassion. (I really like that idea.)
On our life journey, we’ve tried other solutions. The list includes seeking approval, trying to earn acceptance and finding places to belong. But no matter how hard we try, we always end up divided. And in that division, you also experience fear, shame, and unworthiness.
So the question is, how do we move from brokenness to wholeness? How do we move from feeling unloved to being lovable? How do we stop trying to prove our own value and worth?
The answer comes when we embrace God’s grace. It’s His grace alone that makes us whole. And true oneness comes through Christ and his sacrifice. Through that sacrifice we have the ability to be one with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In Closing
Through grace alone are we invited to enter into peace, rest, and Oneness (or wholeness).
Prayer
Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for your acceptance and love. Thank you that when I fail, you still provide a way. Thank you for making me whole. Thank you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Bible Connection
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
