The topic of recovery has always been a little confusing. Everyone has their own understanding of the word. But, most agree recovery takes a long time.
RECOVERY
Phase One: This includes anything and everything you do to stop the negative, addictive behaviors.
Phase Two: Is stabilizing oneself and staying in a healthy place for several years.
Activities include:
Asking God to help you gain control over an out of control life. Saying the Serenity prayer.
Going to group. Being accountable. Gaining lots of insights about your area of struggle. Working the 12 Steps. Getting a sponsor. And hearing sayings. “The program works, if you work it!”
DISCOVERY
I asked a recovering friend this question. “What happens after recovery? Or, do you just die in recovery?” He said, No. You move to DISCOVERY. That is when you realize for the rest of your life you will work in four areas.
- Learning more about the love of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Learning more about myself. So I can uproot old fear pain and shame.
- Learning my wonderful wife. So I can help her move past the feeling of unworthiness.
- Loving and serving others.
Prayer
Father, I need your love and vision. Jesus, I need your sacrificial heart. Holy Spirit, I need your guidance. Thanks for inviting me to join the Heavenly team. I love being part of this eternal support group. Thank you for recovery and discovery. I love all of you. Amen.
Bible Connection
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
-Luke 4:18-19 (LEB)/Isaiah 58:6
because of which he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me
to proclaim release to the captives,
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
