We know Jesus spent time teaching his apostles. He trained them on Heaven, the Father, prayer, identity, and so much more. We know he cares about spiritual matters. But does he care about our emotions? Does he care how we function emotionally?
Here are some questions to consider:
Jesus said. “In this world you will have troubles.” We know that to be true physically, but did that also include emotional struggles? Was he preparing us for inner and outer battles?
Jesus said, “I’ve come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.” Does that also include an emotionally full life?
Jesus made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts. Was he showing us healthy use of anger?
In the boat, in the storm when Jesus said, “Why are you so afraid?” Was he doing emotional training on fear that day?
When Peter walked on water. And then began to sink. Was that training on the emotion of doubt?
Jesus said. “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” We know he was talking spiritually. But, did he also mean we could experience emotional freedom?
Why this matters
Let me close by quoting the full verse that opened this discussion. Jesus said,
I have told you these things, so that in me, you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I’ve overcome the world. – John 16:33 (NIV)
It sounds to me like Jesus is inviting us to inner peace with him.
Prayer
Father, please bless me with inner peace in the depth of my soul. Amen.
