Every man faces some level of sexual struggle, and every man has his own unique battle. Here is a peek inside one man’s struggle.
A temptation is presented. Then an inner dialogue begins.
(Mind) A challenging sexual thought is served up.
(Body) Arousal begins.
(Spirit) Resist. Flee. Pray.
(Mind) These thoughts bring pleasure.
(Body) I want pleasure. Pleasure is good.
(Spirit) Take every thought captive.
(Mind and Spirit) I want this thought and I don’t want this thought.
(Sexual Part) Just a little won’t hurt.
(Spirit) A disciplined life is a free life.
(Mind and Spirit) Remember, you will decide the future direction of your life in the next few seconds. Will you get better or get worse?
(Sexual Part and Wounded Boy) We need pleasure. Life is hard. We pick pleasure.
(Body) I can deliver pleasure.
(Spirit) Do you want to be a slave again? Remember, you have been set free.
(Mind and Spirit) Really! Really! Really! You know where this leads! You know how this ends. Stop already!
(Sexual Part) I lead you. You don’t lead me.
(Wounded Boy) I can’t take the pain of loneliness and not belonging. I need comfort but I’ll settle for a little pleasure.
(Spirit) Abba, Jesus and I stand alongside your adult self. We fight with you and for you. Armor up. We can win this fight. Our weapons are love, comfort, and acceptance.
(Mind and Spirit) You know this story. It ends in more failure, shame, hiding, and division.
(Sexual Part) I want to do what I’ve always done, and you can’t stop me!
(Wounded Boy) Yeah! Acting out is where I get some fantasy comfort. You don’t know how to comfort me.
(Spirit) Fight to hold and grow your peace, rest, and joy! Fight with greater love, comfort, and acceptance. Remember you never fight alone.
Close and Prayer
My Adult self and the Holy Spirit speak. Sexual Part stand down. You are not needed in this moment. Wounded Boy, please step to the front. My Adult self wants to hold and comfort you, my Wounded Boy. Abba, Jesus, and Holy Spirit want to join us in a big hug, comfort, and love fest. Amen.
