How do you know if something is wrong with you emotionally? Or how do you know your emotional system is not running properly? What are three good indicators that there is a problem?
Number One
You live emotionally numb. You don’t like the subject of feelings. You don’t feel and you wish everyone else would stop talking about feelings. You shut down your feelings a long time ago and you’re very comfortable living without them. You love logic, control, and order. Emotions are sloppy and chaotic. When the emotional conversations start…you glaze over.
Number Two
Your mind is not your friend. It torments you. Your thoughts offer no comfort, it’s the opposite. They create stress. A quiet place is not restful. That’s when the thoughts just become more intrusive. Shame, blame, failure, and unworthiness whisper nonstop in the quiet. Your own mind calls you names like failure, loser, and a nobody.
Number Three
You enjoy zoning out. And I mean a lot. Every opportunity to be present–you escape. Distracting yourself and being anywhere else is better than being alone with yourself. You surf the Internet, play video games, get lost in Facebook reels, and use fantasy games for escaping. You could also get lost in news, sports, investing, etc.

Living emotionally numb works some of the time. Living with a mind that calls you names and feels like a bully lives in your head is difficult to manage. And zoning out means missing lots of wonderful, real-life moments.
Prayer
Father, I struggle with my thought life. I’m so tired and have no rest. Please bless and comfort me. Amen.
Bible Connection
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 (LSB)

One response to “How do you know?”
And I think these 3 characteristics are a sliding scale. You can be more or less in each area. Very helpful description.
