What is your God view? And, what is your Self view?
Many older Christians were taught this view:
- Love God! Hate yourself!
- God is good. You are bad.
- Spirit God. Flesh bad.
- God is right. You are wrong.
- Just be a spiritual being. (But, I don’t know how to not be flesh.)
- The more you hate your Self the better. Even, to this extreme, the Self should die.
So, for a long time I loved God. And, was confused and just tolerated myself. I saw me as an inadequate, struggling Self. And, I thought God saw me as his sad, inadequate, struggling, under functioning follower.
If God couldn’t like me, how could I like me?
Remember, the old rule: Love God. Hate yourself.
Then, I learned God is love. And, I’m made in His image.
Now, I believe.
God is love. And, I am loved.
This new belief works so much better. Being loved drives me to more goodness. Love works so much better than hate.
The goal is to be a Self that is fueled by love.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NASB)
God soooo loved the people of this world that he sent Jesus.
Remember, you are His beloved.
Today, let your Self swim in the ocean of his great love. Amen
