“Criticism is an investment.”
Will Guidara
Will Guidara, best-selling author of Unreasonable Hospitality inspired some of these thoughts.
Often criticism is a good thing. It’s a way to identify weak areas. And it’s an investment in making you better. It’s scary to give some people critical feedback. Healthy individuals will receive it well. Others may perceive it as an attack.
Pointing out a weak area can be stressful. It is often misperceived. Who wants to hear what’s wrong? But critical feedback may change one’s life and determine future success.
Will Guidara would say, people who criticize you are investing in making you better. And that’s a good thing. Even if their presentation isn’t great. Often individuals with negative intent don’t realize they’re actually providing useful feedback and information.
Saying nothing is easy and safe. But if you care about someone you sometimes have to give critical feedback. If you have the right mindset and an open heart, you will be receptive to criticism. Criticism is investment in your growth.

Criticism always has an educational and investment component. It contains information about the critic. Next, it contains suggestions for improvement. And finally, how you receive the information reveals information about your own heart.
