Inside each individual is a Box of Secrets. The contents have accumulated over a lifetime. Only a select few individuals ever get to look inside your Box of Secrets.
What is kept in a personal Box of Secrets?
- Events that shaped your life
- Embarrassing things you did
- Quirks, odd thoughts, and unanswered questions
- Haunting fears
- Hurtful things done to you
- Hopes, Dreams, and Wishes
- Intimate encounters with God
In your Box of Secrets are some fuzzy thought fragments and crystal clear memories. There are memories dripping with sadness and stories wrapped in embarrassing silliness.
When looking through the Box of Secrets, every kind of emotion is stirred:
- Laughter at one’s immaturity
- Judgment for poor decision making
- Grief
- Victim feelings
- Bizarre thoughts
- Confusing sexuality
Significant stories are kept in the Box of Secrets. In a strange way, the Box of Secrets is not overwhelming. Every event and encounter has already been survived. So it is more a collection of regrets, sadness, old pain, and vulnerability.
Dear Husband,
Why am I telling you all this? To know me is to know I have a box of memories. And, I keep them secret. I want you to know these secret memories because they contain parts of me. They explain me. You asked me one day in anger, “What do you want?” Here is the answer. I want you to be curious, kind, and gentle. So much so, that I invite you to walk around with me inside my Box of Secrets. I Love you!
Prayer
Father, you are Lord of all of me. That means you are Lord of my Box of Secrets. Thank you that nothing in my Box of Secrets scares you. You know me and still love me. Thank you. Today, I make you Lord of my life and my Box of Secrets, again. I want to share my Box of Secrets with my spouse, to know me. Please help me and bless my spouse. I love you. Amen.
