What is your usual response in conversation?
What do your words reveal about you and how you see life?
Someone says:
“The price of everything has gotten so expensive.”
Here are four common responses:
1. The Fixer
You hear pain and offer a solution:
“I’ve started shopping at discount and warehouse stores.”
2. The Negative Interpreter
You focus on what’s wrong:
“Everything is going downhill. No one cares about the little guy.”
3. The Positive Reframer
You lean toward optimism:
“Overall things are pretty good. We should be grateful.”
4. The Curious Listener
You choose learning over reacting:
“Tell me more. What’s going on?”
Curiosity opens the door. The speaker who was talking about high prices continues.
“My husband is losing his job. I don’t know how we’re going to make it.”
Closing:
Practice curiosity.
Stay neutral.
Ask thoughtful questions.
There is always something deeper to discover.
Prayer:
Father, help me stay curious and grow deeper with others. You are the wisest Being I know. Please keep growing me. Amen.
Scripture:
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19 (NIV)
