In life, you have three choices. That is, three emotional choices on how to interact with yourself. Allow me to repeat. You have three choices. So, how will you view and treat yourself for the rest of your life? Yes, there are some variations. But these are the three big emotional choices.
Here are the choices:
- I love myself.
- I hate myself.
- Neither, I’m a spiritual being. (And, I devalue or ignore all emotions.)
Let’s look deeper at each one.
Love yourself
Please know I am not saying worship yourself, or make yourself the God. I am saying practice love on yourself. Walk in love. Live out of love. Do what God does all day long–love. Why? Because you are a son of God. Be kind to yourself. Be patient with yourself. Keep no record of wrong. Love God, your neighbor, and yourself.
Hate Yourself
Call yourself names. Tell yourself you are a failure, a loser, and an idiot. Have no patience for yourself. Be critical and condemning. Talk about how dumb you are. And generally, just hate on yourself.
Just be spiritual. (Ignore emotions)
Think of feelings as bad. Make everything a battle against Satan or your pride. Just be logical and find a solution. Or say it’s Satan at work. Ignore the emotional part. Just be spiritual, ignore your feelings. Think of feelings as bad. Try not to feel. Ignore sadness, grieving, hurt, loss, and disappointments. If you feel any pain, interpret it as punishment because you’ve been bad. Just be spiritual. Live in this world for a lifetime–never examining your emotional beliefs.
Conclusion
If you want to know what choice you’ve already made, listen to how you talk about yourself. Are you kind to yourself? Or do you call yourself names? Do you work through emotions? Or try to just ignore them. Do you say everything ‘s okay while living in emotional confusion?
