One of life’s top challenges is finding your identity. Life will be easier. And, you will find greater rest as you walk in true identity.
This sounds like a spiritual discussion. Shift over. This is about how your language reveals your identity struggle.
Sitting in a men’s group you will experience three types of men:
- The Super guy
- The Defective guy, and
- The Regular guy
The Super guy
He has amazing stories. And, they are big stories. In the stories he wins, succeeds, and overcomes. But the stories have little emotional content. You learn little about the speaker except that he is strong.
The Defective Guy
He tells stories of failure. In his stories he screwed up, failed, and was unwanted. He hangs his head. Looks down, and says I’m not like you guys. I am weak!
The Regular Guy
He is more restful. His stories have strengths and weaknesses. In his stories he wins and loses. You learn insights about the struggles of life from this man. He thinks. I love God and I mess up!
Some men have never been invited into a healthy emotional identity. To change, one needs language, acceptance, and vision. Start today by repeating, “I am just a Regular guy.”
Prayer
Father, thank you for making me a regular guy. It is more restful to just be a regular guy. And, I need a strong leader. That’s you! You are worthy of worship and praise. You sent Jesus to be my savior. And, you gave me the Holy Spirit for comfort. In spite of my flawed nature. You never call me defective. So, I won’t call myself that either. Thank you for accepting my regularness. Amen.
Meditate on your spiritual identity.
