What if someone could listen to everything you say to yourself? What if someone could hear your inner thoughts for an entire week? What would they discover?
Would they conclude that you like yourself—or that you hate yourself? Would they hear words filled with kindness, grace, and forgiveness?
Or would they hear judgment, criticism, and condemnation? Most people are not neutral toward themselves. Day by day, we move in one of two directions: toward accepting grace or toward self-condemnation.
Here is what grace sounds like:
“It’s OK. You made a mistake. You’re human. Only God is perfect. I failed, and I’m feeling vulnerable right now. I need to be kind to myself today. I don’t like failing, but failure is part of being human. God forgives me, and I forgive myself. I’ll learn from this mistake and do better next time.”
Now listen to the voice of judgment:
“What is wrong with you? You’re so stupid. Are you ever going to learn? This is why nobody likes you. You always mess things up. You’re not like other people. Something is wrong with you. Something has always been wrong with you. When are you ever going to grow up?”
