In counseling school we were taught, conflict can be the pathway to intimacy. What? How can arguing result in intimacy? Think about it. If there is no working through differences how can two become one? Here is how it was explained.
- Two individuals marry.
- They have their different ways and preferences.
- One day conflict over a difference arises.
- They each argue intensely for their own way.
- To “cool things off” they pull apart.
- Later, they come back together.
- He says, “I’m sorry for how I acted.”
- She says, “Yeah, me too!”
- They hug, kiss, and make up.
- Intimacy
Closing
All relationships have conflict. Not working through differences and conflict will leave you as two detached individuals in a marriage. Working through differences and conflict leads to oneness.
Bible Connection
For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
