A wife recently asked her husband, Why is it so hard for you to see yourself? And, why don’t you talk about thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs? You seem so private and I’m your wife.
He took a long time to answer. Finally, he shared these insights.
Growing up, I lived in survival mode. We were latch-key kids. Eating lots of sandwiches. If you didn’t make yourself one, you didn’t eat. I spent a lot of time alone, entertaining myself. As I reflect on your question several other thoughts come to mind.
First, I understand things. Fixing things, buying things, and interacting with things. People confuse me. Second, I don’t want to bother people. Asking personal questions about someone seems so intrusive. So, I don’t. Third, I’m not good at understanding why someone is so emotional. I freeze up when people start talking about their feelings.
In summary, I like fixing things, doing activities, and living in my own head.
His wife responded, Thank you for sharing.
Prayer
Father, please bless our union. Two becoming emotionally and spiritually one is very difficult to achieve. But we are people of hope. Lead us Holy Spirit. Bless us Jesus. Amen.
Bible
Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. – 1 Corinthians 13:7 (AMPC)
