People ask me about my clinical approach to problem solving. The easy answer has always been, I’m Eclectic! (Which means I use pieces of many counseling theories.) Today I have a more detailed answer.
Here are my preferred therapeutic theories:
- Trauma Informed, which means trauma caused you to overdevelop some skills and under-develop others.
- Solution Focused, where you’re asking for a new outcome and greater insights.
- Psychodynamic, where in childhood you got emotionally stunted. You overdeveloped surviving skills.
- Attachment Theory, where I focus on how you underdeveloped connecting skills.
- Narrative Therapy, which addresses that you need new language and a new narrative which allows you to finish your emotional development.
- Emotionally Focused, where you are exhausted from running a limited program that is driven by fear and sadness.
- Psycho Educational, when you need a healthier model that will result in you having a more satisfying life.
- Emotional – Rest model, finally, this work is being done because you want greater rest in your soul.
All the above theories sit on top of one foundational belief, Faith based – Christ Centered. Abba wants to love and reparent you. Jesus is the role model. The Holy Spirit will teach, counsel, and guide you.
Prayer
Father, thank you for what you’ve taught me. And thank you for the new insights you are still teaching me. Amen.
