To all People Pleasers, Approval Junkies, and Fixers. Enough already. Enough with working so hard to earn the approval of others.
You’ve probably discovered by now, it doesn’t work. You can’t get enough approval to feel good about yourself. Approval is like a vapor. It’s only a wisp of love. It’s there for a second, then it’s gone. And, off you go looking for your next wisp of approval.
Since childhood you believed that if you worked hard and earned enough approval you would finally feel deeply loved. It never worked. That plan only left you exhausted and still longing for deep, comforting, inner love.
For perspective, here are two interesting thoughts and one quote that resonated with me:
I don’t need your approval.
I don’t need to prove anything.
“One is as much as he is in the sight of God, and no more.”
St. Francis of Assisi
Closing
Today, I see others as broken and limited sources of love. We all need daily love and approval. My source is a love-well of living water. Jesus has been known to hang around that well.
Bible Connection
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again. For my gift will become a spring in the man himself, welling up into eternal life.”
John 4:14 (PHILLIPS)
Prayer
Father, help me abide in your presence and overflowing love. I make your love my fuel source. Help me daily rest in your love. Amen
