Solution Focused Therapy is a counseling strategy. One is taught to ask the miracle question.
Here is one version of that question:
“If you go to bed tonight and a miracle happens, and all your problems vanish. How will you be different tomorrow?”
- When someone is stuck, feeling trapped, and can’t get out of an emotional issue.
- When someone is bogged down, overburdened, and can’t get away from crushing thoughts.
- When the past is overwhelming, tormenting, and it lives large in the present.
It might be a good time to ask the miracle question.
The question helps someone move out of the emotionally stuck place, and into a creative mindset. The individual then creates a mental picture of where they would like to go.
Here’s what the miracle question does:
- It causes a break from troubling thoughts.
- It gives the brain a new focus.
- It asks the creative part of the brain to create.
- It offers a few minutes of hope to a struggler.
- It illustrates things can be different.
Prayer
Father, thank you for the things that make me unique. Thank you for my brain. Thank you for my story and thank you that you are in the transformation business. I bring my brain, thoughts, and my story to you. Make me more peaceful and restful. Amen.
Bible Connection
Jesus said you are blessed when you run on these strengths: grieving, hungering for righteousness, being gentle, merciful, peacemakers, being pure in heart, and more.
