Author Joseph Campbell studied legends and myths. He discovered they all carry a similar narrative theme. Mr. Campbell wrote that theme into a story. It’s called, the Hero’s Journey.
What is the Hero’s Journey?
A common man is called to face a difficult challenge. He is doubtful. A mentor appears. He gets some encouragement. This common man takes his first step into this overwhelming challenge, then another, and off he goes. He fights through obstacles and difficulties. In the end he overcomes and is successful. Through the journey he experiences insights, growth, and transformation. For succeeding he is seen as the Hero.
You are the Hero in your own story. Your marriage is the challenge. There will be ups and downs. Jesus is your mentor. He asks that you take on this difficult assignment. It’s called the Two-Becoming-One challenge. Heaven has a daughter, your wife. She is in need of sacrificial love. This assignment is your challenge, mission and heavenly call.
Prayer
Father, help me be a Servant-Hero like Jesus. You said the least will be the greatest. Strengthen my heart. Steady my hand. Father, I accept your challenge to grow in oneness. Amen.
(The Hero’s Journey is also known as the Hero’s Story.)
