We are emotional beings and spiritual beings. The older I get the more I hear, “Just be a spiritual being.” I agree conceptually. But, in reality, that’s hard.
We are all aware of men and women who know and love God, a lot. But, they continue to make emotional mistakes. Some are small like
shaming themselves, continuing bad habits and using negative self-talk. Some are larger emotional mistakes like living detached then needing an addiction to cope.
If you are able to live on a higher spiritual plane, do it. Live in constant contact with the higher things above. Live like today is part of one long, glorious, eternal day.
For the rest of us who are straddling between our emotional self and our spiritual self you might want to try this strategy: When you encounter an emotional struggle, apply spiritual truths for growth and healing. That way as you clean up emotional weaknesses, you make more room for spiritual freedom.
In summary, you have two choices:
- Live today like you are a free, peaceful spiritual being. Always live above your emotional self.
- Live today like you are a free, peaceful spiritual being. But, when you hit an emotional snag, stop. Do some emotional work, and grow in the weak area. Then, jump back on to the spiritual pathway and keep growing, forward.
Verse
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
