I love the slow-brain guys. Who are the slow brain guys? They self describe as the strugglers, underdogs, and flounders.
Let me back up. There are three types of brains. They include slow brains, average brains, and men with fast brains. Not all brains are the same. These categories help me find the strugglers.
The fast-brain guys are easy to identify in school. They never struggled with homework. In class, the teacher would present a lesson, and fast-brain guys would immediately understand the material and easily pass the test. They read fast, retain fast, and easily access lots of information.
The slow-brain guys are the strugglers. They ask lots of questions, look confused, and live in doubt. They turn their homework in at the last moment, and are never sure if they did it right. These slow-brain individuals struggle just to get C’s, and are thrilled when they do. This has nothing to do with individuals diagnosed as having special needs. I am talking about the general population of men.
Working with the fast-brain guys is fun, but I love the slow-brain guys. Why? Probably because I see myself as a slow-brain guy. My heart goes out to these guys. Their life is filled with struggles. They try hard but their brain perceives and processes slower.
It thrills my heart to know where I belong. These men long for someone to slow down and walk alongside them. Because, I have struggled, learned, and have gotten old, I can now coach other slow-brain men. And, I love it as a ministry.
Prayer
Thank you Jesus for my brain. And thank you for the ability to help struggling, underdog, floundering men. Bless all of our brains. Amen.
Bible Connection
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:4-6 (NIV)
