My spirit loves three promises of Jesus. I love them so much they are my anchor verses. I want my soul to run on these emotions. They are peace, rest, and joy. My soul knows restlessness, discontentment, and never being enough. But, Jesus offers me inner peace.
Peace
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27 (NIV)
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. – John 16:33 (NIV)
I have lived much of my emotional life confused, uncertain and feeling unworthy. Jesus invites me to run my soul on rest.
Rest
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
Life is full of pain and disappointment. I love that Jesus offers us deep, abiding joy.
Joy
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. – John 15:11-12 (NIV)
Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. – John 16:20 (NIV)
You may want to read the verses in their full context. I love these promises. I love the idea that my soul was made to run on peace, rest, and joy.
Prayer
Father, thank you for Jesus and thank you for the promises of Jesus. Help me claim those promises today. Help me live by those promises. Help my soul run on peace, rest joy. Amen.
