What IDENTITY will you pick and wear today? (And, for the rest of your life.)

Your wounds and your past failings want to define you. They scream of your unworthiness. And, shout out your shortcomings. This is what broken humanity and bullies told you.

• You are stupid.
• No one wants you.
• You are a loser.
• You are different.
• You don’t belong here.

On the other hand, Abba, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit offer you a new IDENTITY. In contrast they whisper these words.

• You are chosen.
• You are made new.
• You belong with me.
• You have been bought with a price.
• And, no one can take you from the Father’s hand.

• You are chosen:
  • You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would abide, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. -John 15:16 (LSB)
• You are made new:
  • Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. -2 Corinthians 5:17 (LSB)
• You belong:
  • The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, also heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. -Romans 8:16-17 (LSB)
• You were bought:
  • For you were bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. -1 Corinthians 6:20 (LSB)
• You are in God’s hands
  • My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish—ever; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. -John 10:27-28 (LSB)

Prayer

Father, thank you for a new identity. I am so tired of the old one. It was too heavy and it tripped me up daily. Today, I cast off the old and put on my new IDENTITY in Christ. Amen.
