Three years ago I was told by my doctor to get a hearing test. I did. They told me I had some high frequency hearing loss. I was told again recently. “You could benefit from a hearing aid.”
To me, a hearing aid meant you were officially old, handicapped, and broken. I sulked around depressed and grieving for 2 days. Then, I remembered how badly my dad needed a hearing aid. He was too proud to get one. He missed so many great family conversations. That one thought pushed me over the edge. I ordered the hearing aids immediately.
On day three, of wearing my new hearing aids, I turned to my wife and said, I love my hearing aids. They bring me such comfort. These aids make me whole again. And, keep me on the top of my game.
A friend recently shared this verse
Those who cling to worthless idols forsake the mercy that is theirs.
Jonah 2:8 EHV
Here’s Stephen’s Enhanced Version
Those who cling to worthless IDOLS (by trying to always look young and not wear hearing aids) FORFEIT GRACE. (And, they miss the stories, blessings and rich closeness that comes from hearing others. So, pick hearing aids) And, the GRACE (and goodness) that could be yours.
Amen
