A midlife, male made this statement.
“I am sorry for what I did to me.”

What a deeply, insightful confession. At first glance, it sounds unusual. But the more you think about it, the more meaning it carries. Here are a few possibilities.
I avoided me.
(I avoided doing my emotional growth work.)
I ignored me.
(When I was hurting in deep places I avoided dealing with it.)
I numbed me.
(It was easier the use a substance or distraction to numb myself instead of learning myself.)
I ran away from me.
(Part of me was quietly, crying out for help while another part kept running.)
I overdeveloped half of me and underdeveloped the other half.
(I became successful in some areas while remaining emotionally immature in others. )
I lied to me.
(When conflict exposed my weakness I told myself it didn’t matter.)
I never looked deep into my own soul.
(I spent my whole life making surface adjustments while ignoring the deeper work.)
Close-
The good news is that it is never too late to turn toward yourself with honesty, invite God into your deepest places, and begin the work of becoming whole.
Prayer-
Father, thank you for wisdom and insight. Bless my new journey. Amen
Scripture-
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23–24 (NIV)
