Kara Powell is a researcher at Fuller Theological Seminary. She was talking about raising healthy teenagers. Kara made this statement,
“Growing up, young people need to experience the right amount of risk, trouble, and uncertainty.”
My spirit leaped when I heard this. Something about that statement made me shout Yes! Men come alive when they experience risk, work through troubles, and manage uncertainty.
One example of this is traveling. It’s risky to get on a plane and fly for hours to a foreign destination. There’s uncertainty that forces you to focus on surviving. And there’s always some trouble or challenge that arises. You must navigate your way through all these issues. That challenge makes a man feel young and alive.
Why do men go hunting, play sports, or skydive? Why do they camp, hike, and fish? And why do men go on mission trips, work in soup kitchens, support, and even build churches? It makes a man feel alive to live an adventurous life.
As God’s men, we are called to live lives that make a difference. We are leaders and visionaries. We have a purpose and are called to be on a mission.
Heaven wants to do a mighty work through you. Ask the Heavenly Father for wisdom as you live an adventurous life through him. Recognize you will face troubles and uncertainty. But you will never be alone. Jesus is the example in front of you. The Holy Spirit walks alongside you. And Abba Father surrounds you.
Prayer
Father, help me live a life of adventure. One that glorifies you, fills me, and blesses others. Help me do it in small everyday ways. And help me live daily in heavenly supernatural ways. Thank you for the men of adventure that have gone before me. Thank you for the leaders that have shown me the way. Thank you for every man that blessed and sacrificed for me. Amen.
Bible Connection
Jesus lived an adventurous life. He said, I have told you these things, so that in me, you may have peace. In this world, you’ll have trouble. But take heart! I’ve overcome the world. – John 16:33 (NIV)
