Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

Maxims that Help us through Change

Here are some common thoughts about change. They are mixed in with Alcohol Anonymous (AA) sayings. These are meant help spur us on through difficult changes.

  • Grow through whatever you’re going through.
  • Nothing changes if nothing changes.
  • You’re only as sick as your secrets.
  • If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.
  • Strive for progress not perfection.
  • The program works if you work the program.
  • No one changes until they become sick and tired of staying the same.
  • Let go and let God.
  • Watch out for H.A.L.T. (The times you get hungry, angry, lonely, or tired.)
  • Take it one day at a time.
  • You can’t think your way into right living; you have to live your way into right thinking.
  • God never closes one door without opening another–but it can be hell in the hallway.
  • We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Prayer

Father, I know you are in the growth and change business. Thank you for walking patiently with me through every life change. And thank you also, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bible Connection

It’s often more helpful to rely on the Word of God when going through difficult changes:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB1995)

I am convinced of this very thing: that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. – Philippians 1:6 (EHV)

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5 (LSB)
