Listening to Her

Is there a plan for listening to my wife? What am I supposed to be hearing when she talks?

Here are some ideas.

Stay present. Be curious.
The story is out front. She is the story. The story is not what you make up in your head.
She is painting a picture with words. Listen for comments that repeat and emotionally charged words.
She is in a battle called life. Which of these is she sharing?
- Did she have a victory today? Celebrate with her.
- Did she get wounded today? Grieve with her.
- Did she discover a new puzzle piece in her understanding of life. Be surprised with her.
When she’s getting close to the end of her story offer comfort.
And end by quietly tell yourself, I’m so glad she wants to talk to me.

Why these ideas?

Bonding and intimacy occur when we make a deep, emotional connection.

Father, please give me wisdom. Help me learn the skill of oneness. Amen.
