Louis Giglio, Pastor was a guest on a recent podcast. He said the following:
“I have great memories of my dad. He was an amazing Father to my sister and me. He was a very kind man. My father was a nominal Catholic. Mom was a very active Baptist…
My father had been sick and was in the hospital. I was trying to comfort him. I told him ‘God loves you and I love you.’ Dad responded, “’No one ever loved me. And, no one ever wanted me. I don’t believe God loves me. And, I don’t believe God wants me.’”
I was shocked. It was a startling revelation. My father was in his mid 60’s. I never knew he carried these feelings; ‘I have never been wanted. And, I have never been loved.’”
Pastor Louis Giglio
This was Louis Giglio’s insight. My own insight is, on the inside, my father too was still a son who carried more rejection than acceptance. His dad was raised by four different relatives and had to move four different times. On the outside, my father was a 65 year-old MAN. Inside he was a 57 year-old BOY. And, was still asking the same question, “Is this where I get loved? Is this where I am wanted? Is this where I belong?”
What if your father is still a son looking for answers. What if he is quietly emotionally tormented with similar questions? What if he is stuck in seeking and never finding? You could also ask the same question of your mother. Is she still a daughter looking for answers?
Do you carry any tormenting questions? First, identify those questions. Then, seek God and those around you for answers.
