How do you define rest? What are the spiritual practices of rest? And what are healthy, emotional practices of rest?
How is Rest defined?
It’s when your spirit, soul, mind, and heart experience inner calm. You experience a feeling of being settled and secure even in the midst of hardship.
Spiritual Rest happens when you practice these skills:
- Prayer: Daily dialoging with God.
- Worship: Spending time honoring and proclaiming the goodness of God
- Reading and meditating on God’s word
- Solitude: Being alone and away from cultural influences.
- Sabbath: A day of not working and focusing on God, family, and relationship.
Emotional Rest happens when you:
Stop practicing self destructive behaviors. Examples include being negative, misusing anger, role playing, self-shame, abusing substances, hating yourself, etc.
Instead, you practice nurturing behaviors. Examples include:
- Acceptance
- Hope
- Gratitude
- Relationship building
- Releasing yesterday’s pain and failings
- Seeing every morning as a brand new fresh start
In what area does your Spiritual and Emotional program clearly overlap?
God is love. You are made by love to love. Rest happens you embrace love and everything about love.
- You love God, yourself and others
- You love your wife and family
- You love, love stories
- You forgive first so you can return to love
- Love is resting with Abba, Jesus and The Holy Guide
