If you go to a spiritual brother in humility and confess. Saying, “I’m struggling!”
And, that brother quickly and assertively responds, “It’s your pride.” You might want to seek advice elsewhere.
Why?
Because many church men want to sound wise. They want to appear insightful. And, they are not sure what else to say. So, they say the strongest spiritual statement they know. “It’s your pride!”
Remember, the speaker came with a spirit of humility and confession. Neither humility nor confession is a part of being prideful.
It appears the speaker is speaking on one topic, confession, and the listener is on a completely different topic, pride.
Often a listener wants to sound intelligent and say something helpful. And, other times men respond with universal church advice. So, they give the “It’s your pride” talk.
Either way, it hurts my heart when a broken humbled soul is told, “It’s your pride!”
Merriam Webster defines pride as exaggerated self esteem.
Bible
Jesus spoke of the religious leaders as having pride issues. (Exaggerated self worth) But, he was compassionate to those who came confessing failure.
Prayer
Father, please help me have ears to hear when my brother approaches me in humility and confession. Amen
