Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

How to Become an Attacher (Part 2)

This is Part 2 in a two part series. Take a moment and re-read Part 1. Then roll right into the next three steps.

Step Four- (Emotional Tool)

You will become emotionally uncomfortable in some intense conversations. (Ex. A wife sharing her sadness.) Don’t run. Instead, alternate between quietly repeating to yourself: Stay, Stay, Stay, and “I am uncomfortable but I will not die.”

Step Five- (Spiritual Thought)

You are made for connection and engagement. In the past, hurting people and their pain taught you to detach. Evil wants you to live detached, alone, and feeling unwanted. The Father wants you to enjoy deep and rich connecting.

Step Six

Repeat this daily. “If the boy inside me is safe then the man can come out, learn, and grow. And, I am emotionally safe today. So, I will engage and grow with my wife.”

Bible Promise

Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. – 2 Corinthians 5:16-18 (AMP)

Prayer

Father, I release my plan to live detached and independent. I receive your plan to live attached and deeply loved. I choose greater closeness to you, my wife, and others who care. Further, I embrace your plan to make me new. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
