Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

How to be Emotionally Deeper

Many wives say they want their husband to be emotionally deeper. But what does that mean? You might ask, “Could she be more specific? What skills does she want me to develop? What actions meet the challenge to be emotionally deeper?”

Here are six skills that help you be emotionally deeper for your wife:

  1. LEARN ME
    • Ask about my dreams, needs, and fears. When you try to learn me, we both learn and grow.
  2. LEARN YOUR PATTERNS
    • Pay attention to yourself. Do you know when and why you get angry? Is there a better way to act when you act irritated?
  3. STAY PRESENT
    • Don’t change the subject. Don’t be in a hurry. Don’t fall asleep when I’m talking. Stay present.
  4. PRESS IN
    • -to our conversations. Ask thoughtful questions. Don’t tell me, answer for me, or race ahead of my thoughts.
  5. EXPLORE THE TOPIC I BRING.
    • It’s my topic. I want you to help me explore the topic. Don’t act like you know it. Instead, ask me thoughtful questions.
  6. BRING SPIRITUAL/EMOTIONAL TOPICS
    • -for us to discuss. I want to learn and grow alongside you.

Bible Connection

And, the two shall become one.

John 17:31b

Prayer

Father please help as we grow in oneness. May you be glorified in our growth. Please grow us in the shape of the Father, Son, and Spirit. Amen
