What do you do when you’re learning about someone you love? You “hold space” for them. What a wonderful Thought. When you want to learn about an individual you “hold space.” That gives the person an opportunity to fill in the space with their Thoughts, feelings, and questions.
Here is what “holding space” does NOT mean:
- Acting like you have all the answers.
- Fixing all the problems.
- Answering every question.
- Talking like a parent or expert.
- Just telling someone what to do.
Here is what it DOES mean:
- Listening longer and deeper
- Being more curious
- Helping someone feel heard
- Connecting with their emotions
- Exploring difficult topics
- Leaving some problems unsolved
