What if your deepest desires are these:
to be fully known,
fully loved,
fully forgiven,
fully enjoyed,
fully celebrated,
and loved so completely that someone would lay down their life for you?
PLAN A — Misplaced Desires
First, you redefine these deep desires as needs.
Then you believe your mission is to find a title, activity, place, or person to meet them.
But life happens.
People disappoint.
Circumstances change.
And those needs go unmet.
The result:
Anger rises.
Jealousy and envy take hold.
Greed and fear of missing out creep in.
Restless discontent settles into the soul.
PLAN B — Desires and Truth
You recognize that your heart’s deepest desires were never meant to be fulfilled by things or people.
They are meant to be met in Abba, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Homework — Speak Truth to Desire
Your mind will lie to you.
It will whisper, “This thing… this achievement… this relationship will finally satisfy all of you.”
You must speak back:
This thing or person will never fully know me,
fully love me,
fully forgive me,
fully enjoy me,
or fully celebrate me.
My heart was designed to be satisfied only in Abba, Jesus, and the Holy Comforter.
Prayer:
Father, may all my desires be filled in You today. Let contentment grow strong within me. Help me rest in the truth that I am Your beloved son.
Amen.
Scripture:
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
