Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

Four Scary Things that Live Inside My Head

I’ve heard this statement several times. “I’m good! As long as I can just stay out of my own head.” So, I asked myself. What’s in his head?

Here are four possible scary answers.

  1. SHAME LANGUAGE
In the past others hurt me and spoke terrible things over me. Now, I speak those same things over myself. And, I repeatedly think. “I am not good enough. No one really likes me. I’m different.”
  2. OLD STORIES
Old negative stories rise up and torture me. They remind me of my mistakes, poor decisions and disappointing choices. Flashing back into past, young, stupid decisions keeps me anxious.
  3. My CORE FEAR
This is the deepest scariest fearful thought that lives in my soul. It is connected to the feelings of rejection and abandonment. It whispers. “You’re not good enough. No one wants you.”
  4. UNHEALTHY FANTASIES
They whisper from the past. “Come back and let’s play. Life is hard. You’re lonely and tired. You need an escape fantasy. Let’s make up something and escape for a little relief.”

These four topics play an unending, inner, verbal, loop of misery. And, that loop lives night and day in my head.

Verse- Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Prayer

Father, Son and Holy Spirit please help. Amen
