Eight men set out on a growth journey one month ago. Today is day 30! Did we lose anyone? Is anyone ready to quit and go back?
Alcoholism is the oldest field of recovery. From it you learn the importance of the 30-day marker. In recovery, you see many men who want to quit bad habits. They start to quit but they cannot make it to the 30-day marker. Of that starting group, there is a smaller group that makes it to the 30-day marker. But with many, their motivation is to prove they are not alcoholics. Then on day 31, they get drunk again.
Recovery is hard work. Breaking habits is hard work. Changing is hard. Staying clean and making it to the 30-day marker is a huge accomplishment. Today is a good day to pause and reflect. Maybe, even celebrate!
That’s the good news. The hard news is there are more challenges ahead. The next marker on your growth journey is the 90-day marker.
So, today give thanks, pause, reflect, rest, and celebrate. Then, back to doing more cleanup work. What we do, we do in Jesus’ name. We do it to His glory. We do it as our humble offering. Because he changed our names from sinners to saints. Thanks Jesus, you’re the best! Amen.
Bible Connection
For this reason also, since the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the full knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and multiplying in the full knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Who rescued us from the authority of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:9-14 (LSB)
