Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

Easing the Change

If you are someone who helps people make changes, whether it’s business changes, or heart changes, there are two areas of concern. Being aware of these areas can help you be more successful. The two areas are anxiety and sabotage

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal emotion. People get anxious during change. It can be fearful going into the unknown. And, moving through the unknown can be stressful. In the unknown you lose some of your touch points of comfort. Individuals know how to find comfort in the familiar and known. Change stirs nervous energy. And that nervous energy or anxiety can lead to the next issue.

Sabotage

Tod Bolslinger consults in the area of helping churches grow and change. He says, sabotage is normal. Sabotage is not done by evil or bad people. It’s done by people just like you and me. These individuals love God, Jesus, and the Church. But they want the status quo. And they will quietly and subtly resist your efforts to make changes. Thereby, sabotaging your progress.

A change can have a great ending. But changing can be very stressful. Be patient and supportive. Help the anxious and fearful. And, be on loving guard for the saboteurs.

Prayer

Father, give me a spirit of openness. And, a willingness to change and be transformed. Help me find rest and comfort by staying close to you. Thank you for Jesus, my example, and the Holy Spirit, my comforter. Amen.

Bible Connection

The Bible is full of examples of change. We are told to be transformed and be renewed. To put off the old self and be made new. Read Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:22-25 in your favorite translation of the New Testament.
