I get that we’re married. I get that we made a commitment. I get that we’re both good people. And, I understand staying married.
But, do you want a relationship with me?
Yes, we are friends. We’ve traveled and explored together. We share family and friends. And, we do some fun things together.
But, do you want a relationship with me?
Yes, we have sex. We exchange pleasures. And, we both offer and receive comfort from our touches.
But do you want a relationship with me?
We can be in the same room and yet I wonder where you are? We can sit side-by-side and yet I think, “Where is your mind?” We can talk about projects, the to-do list, and chores, but I don’t feel like we’re much of an emotional team.
Do you want a relationship with me?
Some people would say everything I just discussed is a relationship. But, I want a soulmate. I want to be known, valued, and loved. That only occurs through talking, sharing and deepening awareness of each other.
We are stuck at a shallow level. And, I want depth. I’m asking this question so we can explore what is needed for this relationship to go deeper.

Prayer
Father, thank you that you know me and love me. Thank you that I can tell you anything. Thank you for accepting the imperfect being that I am. Thank you for Jesus who makes old things new. I want to be known and connect with my spouse at a deep level. Can you help us? We desperately need your wisdom. Amen.
