I saw my mother and father live disconnected together their whole lives. They were married for 56 years. Mother was a dreamer and dad was a survivor. Dad loved mom but he could not show it.
They had faith, loved God and their children, and ran a household. But they spoke very little to each other. Oh, they did talk about supper plans, household tasks, going to the store, moving the car, and taking out the trash.
They never talked about their hopes and dreams, never discussed fears and doubts, and even after 56 years, they did not know each other very well. Instead, they lived disconnected together.
Here’s what I know.
- Dad loved his wife but could not express it.
- Mom loved her husband and wanted more interactions and dialogue.
- Dad lived and died needing to keep himself a mystery.
We all know couples who love each other and live disconnected together. What a heartbreak.
These blogs are an attempt to help two individuals learn each other. The hope is they become a safe place to explore, learn, and grow. My secret agenda is that you grow a deep, passionate, love story together.
Prayer
Father, we love and need you. You are the greatest lover. Teach me to love well. Bless us as we read our blogs and grow. And glorify yourself in our love story. We love each other and we love you. Amen.
