Dr. Lee Warren, a brain surgeon, author, speaker, and podcaster, recently spoke at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio. He helps individuals run their brains better. He taught a two-hour lesson on operating your brain.
Dr. Warren went over his Ten Commandments of self brain surgery. Five of them are listed below. The comments after each one are mine.
Five of Ten Commandments
- Don’t participate in your own demise.
- Don’t do negative self talk. Don’t blame, shame, or criticize yourself. Don’t be your own worst enemy.
- Feelings are not facts they are chemical events.
- Feelings are signals sent from your body.
- They can support you or attack you. They should be examined for information.
- Don’t believe that all automatic thoughts are true. Some thoughts build you up and others break you down. Some thoughts are full of blame and shame. Be discerning.
- Believe that you are not your brain.
- You are a spirit that lives in a body. You are in charge of running your brain. It is not in charge of running you, You-the spirit, and the Holy Spirit direct your brain.
- I must love my brain and believe it was designed to change.
- God gave you your brain. Brains are changing all the time. Your brain was designed to learn, grow and change.
Prayer
Father, thank you for my brain. It is a good gift from you. Help me run my brain in a positive manner. Help me run it consistent with you and your word. And help me remember I am in charge of training and running my brain. Please give me wisdom. Amen.
Bible
Apply this principle to your brain:
Be like the man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on a rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house, but could not shake it, because it was well built. Luke 6:48
