Most people are familiar with the quote by the Greek philosopher Socrates: “An unexamined life is not worth living.” Do you periodically examine your own life?
Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl said, “Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.” Are you living in alignment with your meaning and purpose?
King David, in Psalm 139, prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Do you talk to God about the condition of your heart?
Here are ten questions to help you examine your life:
- Is my emotional life in alignment with my spiritual beliefs?
- Am I at peace with myself?
- Am I nurturing and growing my relationships with others?
- Do I show love and express care to those I support?
- Am I growing spiritually and deepening my relationship with God?
- Do I regularly practice quiet time, prayer, and Bible reading?
- Am I taking care of my body by eating well and exercising?
- What is a personal weakness I am actively working to improve?
- What fear or belief is holding me back from achieving my goals?
- If I died today, would I be at peace with the life I’ve lived?
Prayer
Father, help me to periodically slow down and examine my life. Let my life reflect the example of Jesus. Thank you for your love and patience. Keep growing me, shaping me, and drawing me closer to you. Amen.
