A friend recently sent me an article. The author was a young female adult. I won’t mention her name. This young woman was clear on her mission. The mission had been to point out the flaws in all the old institutions. She pointed out flaws, weaknesses, and imperfections. Then she repeated those discrepancies and magnified them until the institution was seen as having no value.
She and her peers destroyed the value of:
- God
- Church
- Traditions
- Family beliefs
- Institutions
- Roles
- Marriage, and the
- Family
After all the destruction, the young woman asked these questions:
- Upon what foundation do I now stand?
- Where do I get my identity?
- Where do I belong?
Her friend reminded her. “We belong to an online community.” That thought brought little comfort.
An older adult overhearing the question responded, “All the places you destroyed, gave you identity, mission, purpose, and value.”
The young woman thought. “I have destroyed all the places that gave me my identity. Nothing is left. I am alone with no identity and no place to belong.” The young woman began grieving. She thought. “My two worst fears have come true. I am alone and feel abandoned.”
Conclusion
What’s the point of this blog? It’s that your marriage gives you a place to belong. And belonging is a very good thing. So please value your marriage and the other old institutions today.
Prayer
Father, thank you for giving me a place to belong. Thank you for giving my life meaning and purpose. Thank you that I am yours. And thank you for Jesus. Amen.
Bible Connection
Read the Prodigal Son parable. Luke 15:11-32. The son rebelled and left, but the Father never stopped waiting for his son to return. Home is where he belonged.
