How did you get twisted growing up? Everyone did. There are many ways it happens—this is one of them.
You were trained to overuse logic and judgment, and to under-express your own emotions.
This is what that twist looks like:
The First Half (two parts)
A — Overusing Logic
You talk in explanations. You lead with logic. You solve problems. You tell others what to do. You are rarely—if ever— lost, confused, or in doubt.
B — Using Judgment
When you’re not using logic, you shift to judgment. You critique.
You criticize. You point out what’s wrong. You become skilled at identifying the shortcomings of others.
The Second Half (the deeper twist)
- You lose connection with yourself.
- You don’t know what you feel.
- You don’t understand your own emotions.
- You avoid the word “I.”
As in—
- I am sad. I am lonely. I am struggling. I feel misunderstood.
- I don’t feel loved.
- Somewhere along the way, using “I” felt wrong— and unsafe.
Close:
Everyone gets twisted in some way. Learning to see how you were twisted is the first step toward growth.
Prayer:
Father, I see that I got twisted. Help me untangle what has been poorly formed in me. Make me like Jesus. Amen
Scripture:
Put off your old self… and be made new in the attitude of your minds. Eph. 4:22–23 (NIV)
