I had coffee with a brother recently. We talked about how hard it is to move from one belief to another.
- My Young Belief: I am not good enough.
- God’s Belief: I am more than enough.
The first belief was formed in childhood. It grew out of repeated, painful moments: When I failed, when I was embarrassed, when I was yelled at, humiliated, rejected, laughed at by my peers, and excluded.
After enough of those experiences, I defined myself by my failures: I am not good enough.
The second belief comes from Scripture and church.
I am pursued, desired, chosen. I am forgiven. God enjoys my company. He calls me friend. He offers mercy in the morning, and grace in the evening. I am loved at my worst and at my best. He fully knows me and fully loves me.
He whispers, “You are not defined by failure. You are who I say you are.”
So today, I am reminded: I am more than enough because I belong to Abba.

Why I still toggle between these two beliefs is a mystery. But for this moment, I choose the second.
Prayer
Father, today I receive Your truth. I release my childhood belief. I rest in Your promises. Amen.
Scripture
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.” – 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
