What Is Marriage All About?
What is the purpose of marriage?
And how does it shape a person?
Marriage is where you finish growing up.
It is learning to fight for love while embracing discipline.
It is giving, sharing, and letting go—
and discovering that sacrifice brings a spiritual return.
Marriage changes you. It stretches you.
It becomes a safe place where your spouse can do her emotional work, and where you can do yours.
Marriage is the journey from being a selfish young man to becoming a wise elder.
It is a covenant of trust—
where you keep her secrets and she keeps yours.
It is the building of something sacred: a small piece of heaven constructed from two lives
woven together through many seasons.
It is one of the most wonderful, frustrating, and holy assignments you will ever live.
Marriage is, in many ways, being Jesus to a scared and vulnerable woman—loving her patiently, faithfully, sacrificially.
At her lowest point-
You will call your wife “My Queen,”
not because you are the king,
but because Jesus is the King—
and you are His servant.
Christ asks you to stand in His place and love this woman well.
He whispers to husbands:
“If you want to bless Me, bless her.
I delight in hearing her prayers—
especially when she tells Me about your love.”
Close:
Jesus said the world would recognize His followers by their love.
Prayer
Jesus, make me like You. And please forgive me when I am not. Amen.
Scripture
“They will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35 (NIV)
